Contracts Case Study

Project: External Refurbishment of World Heritage Buildings

Location: King William Walk & College Approach

Client: Greenwich Hospital Estate

Contract Period: 16 weeks

Value: £300,000

Brief:
The scheme involved external Stucco repairs, redecorations, replacement of windows and doors plus guttering works. It also incorporated overhauling all roof slopes to both the main roof and back extensions.

Key Issues:
Maritime Greenwich is ranked as one of the most important and prestigious World Heritage sites. King William Walk and College Approach are situated in the heart of this heritage site and are listed for their special architectural and historic interest.

Trinity had to ensure that the special character and appearance of these buildings were not only preserved but also enhanced for future generations.

As properties were occupied throughout the construction process, special care had to be taken to ensure that both the residents and the tenanted commercial properties were not unduly inconvenienced.

There were also numerous parking restrictions in the area and so deliveries and clearing rubbish had to be carefully co-ordinated to prevent undue nuisance to the neighbouring residents.

The Result:
By working carefully with the Client and with imaginative use of colour, the properties were beautifully restored giving a visual coherence between natural stone and brickwork.
