Project: Refurbishment and Maintenance of University Halls
Location: Butler & Fern Hall
Client: University of Hertfordshire
Contract Period: 14 weeks
Value: £633,000
Brief:
The project comprised refurbishment and essential maintenance works to the existing halls of residence known as Butler & Fern. Improvements to toilets, forming new accommodation and shower areas, a complete mechanical and electrical upgrade, removal and replacement of both floor and ceiling finishes and general redecorations.
Key Issues:
The time frame was critical. The works were to be completed during the summer recess prior to the return of the students for there September term. The project involved close co-ordination between the mechanical, electrical and specialist sub-contractors to ensure the remaining trades had adequate time to complete their works.
During the work, asbestos was found in the building and Trinity worked very closely with the Contract Administrator to ensure that the original timelines were met.
The Result:
The buildings were handed back on schedule, which gave the client sufficient time to fit furniture and blinds. With detailed cost control and communication throughout the project, the final account was agreed within a few days of completing the project.
