Trinity were called in to carry out emergency structural support and stabilisation of the former Edward Lear Hotel in Seymour Street London W1. The grade II listed Georgian property was the former home of the Children’s poet and artist Edward Lear made famous from his poems including “The Owl and the Pussycat” and teaching art to Queen Victoria.

The blue plaqued property was more recently being used as a hotel but due to serious structural defects it was closed last year to allow urgent temporary structural support to prevent its collapse. It was discovered that serious de-lamination of the brick facade was causing excessive pressure on non loading bearing components like windows and doors . Following extensive surveys temporary supports were installed and period features within the building were either removed or protected.

In March 2011 major internal structural props and shores were installed to provide sufficient support until applications with Westminster City Council Planning department and discussions with English Heritage are concluded . Until then no further works will be carried out.
