Project:
Refurbishment of Decontamination Unit
Location:
Whipps Cross Hospital London
Contract Period:
8 weeks
Value:
£100,000

Brief:

The critical decontamination unit was refurbished to facilitate the efficient decontamination of equipment and instruments.

The target for the Trust was a reduction in hospital infection rates. Refurbishing the unit and maintaining standards will reduce the length of stay for patients, which will improve patient safety and generate cost savings for the Trust.

Key Issues:

The primary role of decontamination units is to reprocess re-useable medical devices, many of which are technically advanced.

We were required to work in this operating unit for 8 weeks, without any significant reduction on the unit’s efficiency. This meant working with key hospital staff to ensure the safety of the unit and often involved night and weekend working using Infection Control practices.

Outcome:

The hospital estates department and Trinity worked closely together to achieve a high quality finish and with minimum disruption to the Unit.

Trinity has been awarded further projects, based upon the Trusts satisfaction with the work on the Decontamination Unit.
